from Nancy Wolff, DMLA Counsel
To: ALL DMLA MEMBERS
We are asking that e-mails/letter in opposition to Senate Bill 197, as amended in the House, be sent immediately to the Alabama Senate leadership.
The Alabama House of Representatives, apparently in error, passed a version of a right of publicity bill within amendment proposed by the players Association that would make it illegal to sell any expressive works, including photographs if there was any representation of a personâs indicia which includes a photograph.
The MPPA, sent a warning Friday night and asked that all organizations have their members email the Alabama state senators expressing opposition to the current version of SB 197.
A copy of the letter I sent on behalf of DMLA is linked here. You can modify it or send it as is. If you can get these e-mails out before Tuesday morning it would be greatly appreciated. All it takes is one bad bill in one state and other states will adopt the same language.
The opening paragraph of opposition letters should make the point this is anti-business legislation that will result in expensive, unnecessary and burdensome lawsuits.
